Beths Grammar School appointed Hutton Construction to deliver the phased demolition of an existing Learning Resource Centre (LRC) building and the design and construction of a new three-storey Sixth Form teaching and study facility.

Delivered under a JCT Design and Build Contract 2016, the project created a modern and flexible learning environment while maintaining the safe day-to-day operation of the live school campus throughout construction.

Scope of Works

The project included the demolition of the existing single-storey LRC building and the construction of a new Sixth Form block, together with associated external works, including hard landscaping and a new fire tender access road.

The new facility provides 14 classrooms across the first and second floors, alongside a spacious open-plan common room at ground floor level featuring a commercial kitchen and serving area. Dedicated staff offices and staff welfare facilities were also incorporated within the scheme.

Construction works included:

Mass fill foundations
Structural steel frame construction
Precast concrete floors and staircases
SFS infill system
Brickwork cladding
Aluminium windows and curtain walling
Built-up felt roofing system

Internal works included:

Flexible moveable classroom partitions
Mechanical and electrical installations
Internal glazed screens and door sets
Screed and floor finishes
Suspended ceilings and exposed service installations
Toilet cubicles and vanity units
Platform lift installation

Sustainability & BREEAM

The project is currently on track to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, with final submission in progress.
