Hutton were instructed to design, convert and refurbish the existing six storey hotel into eight shared ownership flats to Homes and Communities Agency standards.
The existing buildings were listed so works were carried out carefully to preserve the delicate historical features. Traditional techniques were used such as lime plastering, lath and plaster ceilings and ornate cornice repairs were used to maintain the historical character and to comply with listed building consent.
In addition to this, the building also required underpinning, steelwork and brickwork repairs to maintain the structure. The internal fit out required new partitions, ceilings, acoustic flooring, secondary glazing, joinery and a full mechanical and electrical installation.
